The Town of Littleton is seeking qualified candidates to work the Town Beach and at the summer programs for the Park and Recreation Department. Full Job descriptions can be found on the Human Resources page.

Community Education Instructor: The purpose of this position is to create, plan, implement, and run programs and classes in a multitude of topics. In the summer these programs typically tend to be enrichment programs for children K-6 that tend to be ½ day to full day programs that are approximately a week long. We are also looking for Adult and Teen programs that would be 1 to 2 hours a week for 6 weeks, or a single session. A Bachelor’s Degree in education or related field is preferred. Has at least one summer of providing similar classes and programs and currently holds American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification. Schedule C1; Grade 3 - $20.00 – Grade 6 - $35.00, depends on experience.


Summer Custodian: A custodial role at Littleton Parks and Recreation is a multi-faceted, fast paced position. Custodians are responsible for assisting seasonal staff with custodial needs for all activities of daily camp, beach, and parks. As well as adhering to Board of Health sanitization protocols and assuring accurate record keeping. Custodians must communicate clearly with all staff and perform timely sanitization for safety of all campers and staff.


Minimum Requirements: High school education; six months of custodial/maintenance experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. General knowledge of cleaning materials, methods and equipment. Basic knowledge of trades including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, etc. helpful. Must have a valid driver’s license. Must be available to work the for the entire program length. Schedule C1; Grade 4 - $20.00


Camp Specialists: Camp Specialists must have the ability to work harmoniously with the participants and general public. In addition they are responsible for ensuring a fun and safe environment for all camp participants. Responsible for the planning and implementation of their individual specialized Camp Program, with special attention to activities planned, (i.e. Arts and Crafts, Music and Drama, Science, and Sports). Current American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certifications. Schedule C, Grade 7 – $17.98

  • Science SpecialistBachelor’s Degree in education or science, Master’s Degree in the field of science preferred, plus three years of supervisory camp experience. At least two years working in the science field with school-aged children. Ability to work with chemicals in an experimental atmosphere. Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire.
  • Art Specialist: Bachelor’s Degree in education or art studies plus two years of supervisory Camp experience. Artwork should be recognized or shown in studio or collegiate art shows. Must be at least 20 years of age at time of hire.
  • Music SpecialistBachelor’s Degree or two years of undergraduate study in education or music. Working knowledge of several instruments, experiences playing in front of crowds, plus two years teaching music to youth. Must be at least 20 years of age at time of hire.
  • Sports SpecialistOne year of undergraduate study in education, movement science, recreation or related field. Must have working knowledge of various sports. Must have played in two or more organized sports leagues. Experience working with children is mandatory. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire.
  • Technology Specialist: One year of undergraduate study in education, computer sciences and/or technology or related field. Must have working knowledge of various computer programming and coding using the Scratch coding language. Ability to create computer programs using the Scratch coding language. Engage students with fun and exciting and creative programming for our camp participants. Must have two years’ experience working with children. Must be 18 years of age at time of hire.

Head Lifeguard: The purpose of this position is to assist in administering, implementing, and supervising a seasonal aquatics program for the Town of Littleton. The Head Guard must have the ability to work harmoniously with the program staff, participants, and the general public. In addition, he/she should be able to firmly enforce all facility regulations. Exercises considerable initiative, creativity, and independent judgment in planning and running seasonal aquatics and sailing programs. Works in conjunction with the Aquatics Director to formulate decisions about program safety, participants and personnel. Assists in the Management and supervision of all seasonal beach staff including Lifeguards, Sailing Instructor, Snack Hut Attendants and Swim Instructors. Aids in closing of all Town Beaches, and the cancellation of swim lessons due to inclement weather. Schedule C, Grade 8 - $18.76

Recommended Minimum Qualifications: Must be at least 19 years of age, and have at least 2 years supervisory experience within the Aquatics field. Successful completion of American Red Cross’ “Head Guard” course preferred. Must hold current Lifeguard Training certification, Water Safety Instructor Certification and current First Aid/CPR/AED certification. Current American Red Cross and/or American Heart Association First Aid/CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certifications preferred; Lifeguard Certification required.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to complete a state-mandated Lifeguard physical examination including:

  • 500 yard swim in eleven (11) minutes or less.
  • Run-swim-run test: run 100 yards, swim 150 yards, and run 100 yards concurrently. 
  • Demonstrate lifeguard skills including passive and active victim recovery.
  • Pass the American Red Cross Lifeguard written exam with a score of 80% or higher.

Sailing Instructor: The purpose of this position is to assist the Sailing Coordinator with supervision of all individuals utilizing Town Beaches, with special attention to sailing and boating activities and classes. The Sailing Instructor must have the ability to work harmoniously with the participants and the general public while at the same time ensuring a fun, safe environment for children and adults. Sailing Coordinator must be at least 18 years of age, hold current Lifeguard Training certification, current First Aid/CPR/AED certification and have at least 2 years boating experience. Duties same as a lifeguard and also include: Oversees assigned boating and sailing activities including sailing lessons, boat rentals, and camp sailing activities as determined by the Sailing Coordinator. Ensures the safety of the participants at the waterfront. Creates and facilitates all sailing and boating activities. Schedule C, Grade 6 - $17.25

Recommended Minimum Qualifications: Must be at least 18 years of age and hold current Lifeguard Training certification and current First Aid/CPR/AED certification. In addition, must have at least 2 years’ experience working with children in a learning or teaching environment and 3 years of boating experience. Massachusetts Safe Boating Certification preferred, but not required. Current American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certifications preferred; American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification preferred. 

Lifeguard I: The purpose of this position is to supervise all individuals utilizing Town Beaches, with special attention to aquatic activities. Lifeguards must have the ability to work harmoniously with swimming lesson participants and the general public while at the same time ensuring a fun, safe environment for children and adults. A Lifeguard I must be at least 16 years of age, hold current Lifeguard Training certification and have current First Aid/CPR/AED for the certification. Work is performed in outdoor conditions with moderate to loud noise and frequent interruptions. Has frequent exposure to inclement weather, sand, sun and other adverse elements; high levels of noise and swim lesson equipment. Responsible for overseeing the safety of all water activities including swimming and boating lessons, public boating activities, and camp swim activities. Ensures the safety of the participants at the waterfront. Coordinates assistance from appropriate Camp Counselors as needed. Maintains safety of the affected program areas, equipment, and reports defects to Supervisors. Assists in overseeing children in camp swim time and for aquatic special events. Interacts with parents in a positive manner. Provides guidance and leadership to beach patrons and swim participants. Conducts oneself in a professional and courteous manner. Schedule C, Grade 5 - $16.61

Recommended Minimum Qualifications: Must be at least 16 years of age and hold current Lifeguard Training certification and current First Aid/CPR/AED certification. American Red Cross certification preferred.

Camp Junior Counselor: Duties include supervision of children in a seasonal Camp program for children between the ages of 6 to 15. Responsible for assisting Senior Counselors and Camp Management with supervision, safety, and discipline of all Camp participants. Moderate Experience working with children. Working knowledge of camp programs and children’s play habits. Must be 15 years of age at time of hire. Current American Red Cross and/or American Heart Association First Aid/CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certifications. Schedule C, Grade 1 - $15.00

Camp Senior Counselor: Duties include supervision of children in a seasonal Camp program for children between the ages of 6 to 15. Counselors must have the ability to work harmoniously with the participants and general public. In addition, he/she is responsible for ensuring a fun and safe environment for all camp participants. Senior Counselors must be at least 18 years of age, and will be responsible for maintaining the State mandated counselor-to-camper ratio for campers between the ages of 6 and 15. Current American Red Cross and/or American Heart Association First Aid/CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certifications. Schedule C, Grade 3- $15.44

Camp Lead I: Duties include supervision of children in a seasonal Camp program for children between the ages of 6 to 15. Lead Counselors must have the ability to work harmoniously with the participants and general public. In addition, he/she is responsible for ensuring a fun and safe environment for all camp participants. Lead Counselors must be at least 18 years of age, and are responsible for maintaining the State mandated counselor-to-camper ratio for campers between the ages of 6 and 15. Several years’ experience working with children, especially school-aged. Working knowledge of camp programs and children’s play habits. Must have at least two years’ experience working in a camp atmosphere as a leader. Schedule C, Grade 5 -$16.61

Recreation Attendant: This position supports all Littleton Parks, Recreation, and Community Education offerings and events with an emphasis on Long Lake Beach daily operations. Attendants will give special attention to parking, snack shack, rentals, and custodial duties. Attendants will give special attention to customer service. Attendants must have the ability to work harmoniously with the general public in a kind and courteous manner. Attendants must be at least 15 years of age and hold current First Aid/CPR/AED certification. Work is performed in outdoor conditions with moderate to loud noise and frequent interruptions. May have slight exposure to inclement weather, sand, sun and other adverse elements; high levels of noise and swim lesson equipment. Responsible for the effective sale of food items and miscellaneous merchandise from the Snack Shack. Responsible for collecting of money for boat rentals and ensuring that renters have received all safety equipment before use and are aware of rules governing safe use of watercraft. When applicable preforms above and additional duties at PRCE sponsored events and programming, including Camp Tahattawan, TRAC, and LEAP as directed. Schedule C, Grade 1 - $15.00
