ARTICLE 1 - Voter Petition -Rental or Use of Town Owned Property

To see if the Town will vote to amend the Code of the Town of Littleton, Massachusetts to include an Article providing that:

The board or committee with the care, custody, and control of any Town-owned property, including without limitation, any park, playground, public building, schoolhouse, school grounds, or parking lot may rent or allow the use of any Town-owned property to members of the public, individuals and groups, both profit and non-profit, for reasonable uses at reasonable times. The board or committee with the care, custody, and control of any Town-owned property will grant priority in the rental or use of the Town-owned property to non-profit organizations and particularly encourage the use of Town-owned property by community groups and particularly those groups which serve the needs of the youth of the region. The above provisions shall apply to any schoolhouse or school grounds to the extent that the School Committee has delegated care, custody and control to another Town board or committee. That an event or program that is similar to any Parks, Recreation & Community Education offerings or events shall not be grounds to deny the use or rental of any Town-owned property, provided however, that the rental of any park, playground, public building, schoolhouse or school grounds will be not be allowed if it directly interferes with student activities, school related functions or any Parks, Recreation & Community Education offerings or events.

Motion: Moved and seconded by the petitioner that the Town vote to approve Article 1 as printed in the warrant.

Board of Selectmen do not support Article 1.
